Election Thoughts for November 4th

by Bonnie Calhoun

LOL...I'm not voting in this election because neither of them display the righteousness that God demands of his annointed. :-) In other words, I don't like either of their positions on abortion.

I've heard it said over and over that we must vote for the "lesser of two evils". Well, as far I can see that is man's doctrine, not God's because nowhere in the Bible does God tell us to vote for the lesser of two evils...or evil in any form for that matter.

Then I've also heard that it is my civic duty to vote....No...I'm letting God be my elected leader. Romans 13:1 tells us that God puts every single elected official into office, and as we know from the Old Testament God will give people who demand a leader...the one they deserve.

I am a registered Republican, and I voted for GW the last two times. Well it wasn't until after the second election that I found out that Dick Cheney had a gay daughter, and supported gay marriage. I have had a re-occuring nightmare for the last four years that a gay marriage ammendment came down to a tie vote in the Senate, and Cheny as the President of the Senate (lol...the Vp's only real job)...he passed the bill and made Gay marriage federally legal. In the dream all I saw was the finger of God...like in that painting...pointing at me saying, "Look what you did!"

I'm not going to be responsible for where this country is heading. We've had eight years of GW...the "responsible vote for the christian right". How much better off are we today because of that choice? And saying the Democrats are at fault only works...if at all...for the last two years because before that it was all Republican control.

The answer is, we aren't any better off, we're way worse off, and God is sick and tired of all of this crap. We are headed down a path that we can't even recover from because no matter how much we think we're voting correctly, we're not. Because if we had been things would have been getting better instead of worse. You can't voteecorrectly, because you can't legislate morality. We've tried over and over again with all sorts of laws, and people in their evil carnality do just what they please from driving drunk, speeding or cheating on their taxes.

The only way we can even hope for a change is by affecting people's hearts, and the church today is sadly not up to that challenge.

So I'm sitting this one out...I've told God that I voted Him as my Commander and Chief. I have to live IN the world, but I don't have to be OF it.

Now, I'll hop down off my soapbox :-)
